FRIENDS OF THE MARCH OF THE LIVING 2014 HERITAGE TRIP TO POLAND, LITHUANIA AND ISRAEL
This trip to Poland, Lithuania and Israel is for anyone older than 21, and is scheduled for April 23 – May 7, 2014.
Kempner and Handler aim to recruit enough people from New England to fill at least one bus with relatives of Holocaust survivors or people interested in Holocaust history. The Friends of the March of the Living (MOTL) trip coincides with the annual dramatic international program March of the Living which is expected to draw some 12,000 teens from across the globe on the pilgrimage from the site of Nazi death camps to modern Israel. Since its inception in 1988, some 250,000 teens have participated in MOTL.
The ‘Friends’ group’s mission (www.friendsofthemarchoftheliving.org) is to ensure the perpetuation of the March of the Living Program through the establishment and maintenance of an endowment fund. The fund will support the March of the Living’s goals of educating Jewish teenagers about the dangers of assimilation, hatred and intolerance. Teen participants learn to ‘Never Forget’ and the concept of the importance of continuing to share the stories of the Holocaust survivors for generations to come. The non-profit Friends group, launched in Florida13 years ago, plans to create a $6 million Foundation to perpetuate its mission. ($1 for every Jewish Holocaust victim.)
Reservation deadline is October 1st or until all spaces are filled. For those who cannot travel for the full two weeks, the Israel portion of the itinerary is optional. Each participant will be responsible for arranging their own airfare.
